Beautiful and dramatic seascape by painter Monica Lorentzon. Lorentzon is known to use her fingers to apply the paint, which is also true for this striking piece. With just her fingertips, she created a rough sea with many tones of blue, and the island in the back, where she added some bright colors. The small piece of beach in the front provides an anchor and adds depth to the scene.
The painting is surface cleaned and comes with a complementary, well-suited vintage wooden/gilded frame. Both painting and frame may show some age-related wear and tear, which largely contributes to their charm. About the artist:
Monica Lorentzon is an artist, born in 1940. She studied at the Reybekiel School of Art and the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Lorentzon applies paint in an impasto manner with her fingers, often depicting people, painted colorfully with a touch of naiveté. She received the Dag Hammarskjöld Prize in 1987 and is represented in the art collection of former President Jimmy Carter.
