About Weder.
About Weder.
'Weder' is Dutch and means 'Re' as in re-loved, re-used. Weder. brings forgotten works of art from the 1940s to the 1980s back to life. Original, carefully curated oil paintings from across Europe – art with a bit of history. Weder. re-values and re-uses what is already there, and gives these original beauties a second life in a new interior.
The person behind Weder.

My name is Pleun. My love for art started early: visits to museums and galleries were part of my upbringing as my parents are fervent art collectors. I nearly enrolled as university student of art history and restoration, but life took me – via a detour in America – on a different path. Yet art continued to play a big role in my life. Especially the modern and expressive paintings from the turn of the 20th century, with older works from Piet Mondriaan as my first fascination.
With my trained eye – formed by years of interest and endless looking – I choose art that appeals to me personally. Original pieces that have been hidden for years in attics, or private homes or estates. I look for oil paintings with a lot of character. Often expressive, but then in a softer, more subdued color tone.

I get a lot of pleasure from tracking down work that carries beauty and a story. Art that, in my opinion, deserves a new life. A second chance in a contemporary home. And I feel the cycle is complete when clients tell me they get a lot of joy out of their new painting!
'Art at home service'
Buying art and art galleries can be a bit intimidating. I want to make it easy and fun to buy and collect art. Therefore, I offer the 'Art at home' service: I come to your house with a selection of paintings, and we try them on your own walls. You keep them overnight to see what the changing light does to it. Don't worry too much about making it fit the curtains or your sofa, If you feel a spark, it is your piece!
Cleaning, restoring and framing

All our paintings are cleaned: the canvas and frame are carefully cleaned to remove layers of dust and - unfortunately - nicotine (most paintings lived throught the 60s;)). I am learning the trade of restoring, and I do some minor touch ups on paintings and frames.
When the frame does not fit the painting, or is too damaged, I look for ways to restore it, or to replace it by a new suitable frame.
