Abstract modernist painting of a rocky coast and foamy waves. Oil on panel, signed.

With rough brush strokes and a lot of paint, Lars Herder (1923-1976) created this rugged coastal landscape. Using mostly blues and some greens, whilst adding some (almost) black to create a layers between the rocks. Bright white  and some hints of pink depicts the foam of the waves.

The painting is surface cleaned and comes with a complementary, restored vintage wood and silver frame. Both painting and frame show some age-related wear and tear, which largely contributes to their charm. The best way to see this is through the photos, so study them because they form the description.

Size: 37 x 32 cm (with frame)

About the artist:

Herder started his education as a professional painter in 1941 at the Slöjdföreningen school in Gothenburg. He continued to Eric Clemmensen's painting school in Copenhagen and took several study trips to Paris, Germany and Poland. He settled permanently in Helsingborg in 1945. He exhibited both solo and in group exhibitions. His art consists of portraits, figures, landscapes and abstract motifs in vibrant colour. Herder is represented at Moderna Museet and Trelleborg's museum. A memorial exhibition of his art was shown at Sofiero Castle in Helsingborg in 2008.
