Laundry Day

This charming composition of a house with a back garden with a clothesline with a few items hanging to dry was painted by renowned Swedish artist Eskil Skans. The trees are whimsical in their naïve shapes, and the colorful laundry adds some lightness and fun in the composition.

The painting is surface cleaned and comes with a complementary, well-suited vintage wooden frame. Both painting and frame may show some age-related wear and tear, which largely contributes to their charm. About the artist:

Gustaf Eskil Skans (1905 – 1989) was a Swedish painter and illustrator. He studied at the Technical School in Malmö and during study trips to Paris, southern France and Italy. He made his debut with exhibitions in the early 1940s and exhibited separately several times in southern Sweden. In his early art, there are figure studies, genre-like market and fairground scenes with a naïve tinge, harbour and coastal motifs with boats. In addition to his painting, he was active as a newspaper cartoonist. Skans is represented at Kristianstad Museum.
