Modernist oil painting of a small village with white houses and pine trees, signed.

Stig Wernheden created this coastal scene in blues, greens, yellow and beige with his palette knife. He needed just a few strokes to create this layered landscape by the sea, made during his travels to the island of Ibiza. Perfect on a blue or green wall (see photos)!

The painting is surface cleaned and comes with a complementary, well-suited vintage wooden/gilded frame. Both painting and frame may show some age-related wear and tear, which largely contributes to their charm. The best way to see this is through the photos, so study them because they form the description.

Size: 27 x 44 cm (with frame)

About the artist:

Stig Henry Wernheden (1921 – 1997) was a Swedish painter, graphic artist and chemist.

Wernheden worked as a chemist from 1938 to 1950. He studied painting in Malmö from 1948 to 1953 and pursued independent studies during trips to France, Yugoslavia, Spain, Italy, Austria and Switzerland. His art consists of realistic still lifes, figures and landscape depictions executed in oil, watercolour or as wood and linoleum cuts, which towards the end of the 1950s became more abstract. During his career, he exhibited throughout Sweden. Wernheden is represented at Moderna Museet, Malmö Museum, Snus and Match Museum, Ystad Art Museum and Malmö City Hall.
