An exceptional and sophisticated example of Northern European post-war modernism, dated 1957. This captivating oil painting perfectly captures the zeitgeist of the late-cubist revival that swept through Scandinavia and Western Europe during the late 1950s.
The painting reflects the structured, modernist language of mid-century Scandinavian art. Interlocking geometric forms create a rhythm of verticals, horizontals, and irregular planes, while muted blue, warm ochre, soft pink, olive green, and white give the composition a quiet, architectural quality.
