Coastal landscape with cliffs and houses. Oil on canvas, signed (Carl Berndtsson (1902-1982)).
This is a strong example of a Swedish Post-Impressionist coastal landscape, likely from the 1950s. Berndtsson works plein air in spirit here — the brushwork is direct and energetic, as if painted on the spot. Short, diagonal strokes in the grass and sky give the work movement and a sense of the wind.
The palette is typically Swedish coastal: cool grey-blue, dark blue-green, off-white — with the two red roofs as the only warm accents. That is a deliberate compositional choice: those red triangles keep the eye within the composition. The houses are recognizable as Swedish coastal architecture — low roofs, dark tones, tucked into the landscape.
The painting is cleaned and comes with a complementary, well-suited silver vintage wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condistion. The best way to see this is through the photos, so study them because they form the description.
Size: 60 x 43 cm (with frame)
