Beach Houses - Inga Larsson - 1954 - 62 x 53 cm

A midcentury original painting representing a group of houses by the beach. Oil on canvas, signed and dated (1954).

A cluster of coastal fishing huts rendered with confident brushwork. Female painter Larsson builds the scene in cool greys and muted greens, disrupted only by two bold ochre lines — likely the weathered planks of a boat ramp — that draw the eye across a sandy foreground.

The impasto sky, consists of layered blues with visible directional strokes, anchors the work firmly in the Swedish post-war figurative tradition: observational, unsentimental, and formally rigorous. A rare signed and dated work from a period when Scandinavian painters were quietly producing some of the most assured coastal painting in Europe.

The painting is cleaned and comes with a new, professionally fitted light oak frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition.

About the artist:

Inga Larsson was self-taught and pursued self-study during trips to Finland and France. She made her debut in an exhibition with Skånes konstförening in 1947, and subsequently participated in several group exhibitions in Skåne and Lomma. She was awarded several scholarships throughout her carreer. Larsson is represented at Malmö Museum, Tingshuset in Lund, the Institute for Plant and Forest Protection in Alnarp, Malmöhus County Council, Halland County Council, Kristianstad County Council, Östergötland County Council and Västerbotten County Council.
